Root Canal Therapy
Root Canal Therapy
The pulp of the tooth is the inner core of the tooth, which contains nerves, blood vessels, and other tissue. The pulp can be easily infected from other tooth problems, and if this infection is left unchecked, it can spread to the root of the tooth. Infection in the pulp can also cause pus to develop, which leads to an abscessed tooth. The first symptom of a pulp infection is usually sensitivity or pain.
Root canals branch off from the top of the tooth and run vertically down the tooth ending at the root. There are between one and four root canals in every tooth. Success rates for root canal therapy are extremely high. The therapy halts the spread of infection by removing the affected tissue. The treatment is effective in treating problematic teeth that would previously have simply been removed.
