Teeth Whitening

Tooth whitening is a safe and effective treatment for stained or discolored teeth. The procedure can even be used for a single tooth that is noticeable for being dull.

Tooth whitening is usually accomplished with peroxides that bleach the teeth. This treatment is most effective for teeth that have stains of yellow, orange or brown. Tooth whitening usually makes teeth between five to seven shades lighter, though some results are even twelve times brighter. While smoking, flourisis, and tetracycline stains, which are gray, can be lightened, the results are often less-than-satisfactory.

While tooth whitening is effective in most people, some with pitted teeth or more serious discolorations may be better served with veneers. Also, since bridges, crowns, and fillings do not bleach, these fixtures may have to be replaced to match the new coloring of teeth. It is advisable to consult with the dentist before any whitening procedure is done.
