Water irrigation devices, also know as water picks, are useful in rinsing away food particles and other debris with a small, yet powerful stream of water. Water picks can often clean in the areas of the mouth that are not as easily reached. Dentists use water picks during cleanings and exams granted these water picks are professional grade.
In personal use, while nothing is a substitute for a daily brushing and flossing regimen, water picks are a good supplement. People with highly sensitive gums or a gum disease may find water picks useful, as could people with orthodontic devices such as braces, as the water is helpful in cleaning areas that the bristles cannot reach because of the appliances.
